Bruneian Martial Art
Silat Suffian Bela Diri (SSBD) represents a time-tested family combat system preserved and taught by Master (Cikgu) Maul Mornie. This pragmatic martial tradition blends lightning-fast footwork with devastating close-quarter techniques. What distinguishes this ancestral system is its foundation in real-world blade encounters, creating a comprehensive approach that seamlessly transitions between armed and unarmed combat scenarios. SSBD emphasizes adaptability over rigidity, strategic positioning over brute force, and efficient movement over complex techniques.

"This seminar was an incredible experience. The training was top-notch and I walked away with a wealth of practical knowledge. Great training partners from diverse backgrounds created an excellent learning environment. Despite the intensity of the knife techniques being taught, the instructor maintained a safe, controlled atmosphere where everyone could practice at their own comfort level. I particularly appreciated how the techniques were structured - each building logically on the previous one like interconnecting pieces. By the end of the weekend, my skillset had expanded significantly with techniques I can actually apply." - Attendee of the 2024 SSBD seminar in Italy

"You have to see Maul Mornie live at least once. He is not only a superb martial artist but his speed, precision and economy of motions is amazing to see in real life. Maul is not coming to The Netherlands often so do not miss out this opportunity. I found the atmosphere of seminars most welcoming. Regardless of your level, people level out and are very open to learn. I have attended seminars in two countries and in both occasions the atmosphere is very friendly. If you are experienced, you help other to improve. If you are a beginner, someone will step in to help you. The SSBD approach is unique and different from other systems. First, after grasping the foundational techniques and principles, the applications are multiplied regardless if the situation is right-handed, left-handed, a combination of both. The other aspect is that each technique is rooted in Bruneian culture and traditions and Maul offers unique insight into the history and origins of each application. This is very helpful in understanding the tribal combat nature of the art. - Omar, Attendee of 2024 SSBD seminars in Germany and France
